Design Technology
Our intent:
At Kingstone and Thruxton Primary School, children will receive a design and technology curriculum which allows them to exercise their creativity through designing and making. Our curriculum enables and encourages our children to combine their designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding, in order to design and make a product. Skills are taught progressively to ensure that all children are able to learn and practice, building upon and developing their skills and knowledge as they move through the school. Evaluation is a key part of the design process and will allow children to adapt and improve their product, whilst also encouraging them to learn from their mistakes and use this knowledge to improve future projects. Design and Technology allows our children to apply the knowledge and skills learned in other subjects, particularly Maths, Science and Art. Children’s interests are captured through the use of phase wide topics and opening minds weeks.
The document below outlines the Design Technology that will be taught in each year group, each half term.
